Taheebo tea is a tea that is made from the dried inner bark of the Pau d’arco tree. This is a large tree that grows naturally in the rainforests of South America. The inner bark of the tree is used in herbal medicines to treat various maladies, internally and externally. Internally, it is used in the treatment of infections; it reduces inflamation, enhances digestion, strengthens the immune system, flushes toxins from the body, protects against cardiovascular diseases and high blood pressure. It is believed to alleviate the effects of chemotheraphy and even effect the complete remission of tumors. Additionally, it is used to treat pains, arthritis, inflamation of the postate gland, fever boils and various cancers and diabetes without side effects.
Externally, the tea is boiled, strained and used as a wash to treat skin inflamation, fungal infections, hemorrhoids, eczema and wounds. Taheebo/Pau d’arco is also available in the form of capsule, tablet, salve, liquid extract, powder and tea from the internet as well as health food stores. It is advised that when the crushed inner bark is used for tea, it should be boiled for at least 8 minutes so that the active ingredients can be released because they are not readily dissolved in water. Note: Pau d’arco/Taheebo is not recommended for children and people who take medication for blood thinning eg. aspirin.
