Hi Kidzdorm fans, our government offers a lot of services that most of us are unaware of, that can help reduce parents stress level and help the family to grow to be a healthy unit. Two such services are MOMS and STEPS, these services offer help to a major problem that affects both parent and child. Mothers Overcoming Maternal Stress (MOMS) is a program funded by Children’s Services to help with maternal depression. The program allows the mother to see a therapist and join groups that provide the support she may need to connect with her baby. It helps build self confidence and self esteem as well as help the mother develop coping mechanism so that she will be more assured in making decisions about her child. The other service Supported Training Employment Program for Special Needs (STEPS) this helps with guidance and support for teens with special needs in the workforce . This program give the extra help needed to get teens ready for the working world. It develops living skills and teaches social skills, then it assist them to find jobs. Statistics show after a teen completes the program 68% improve their skills in conversation, literacy, phone skill as well as problem solving. 62% increase their daily living skills and 55% improved their chances of being employed. 75% of the youth learned ways to improve their social behavior and make new friends and 80% had better social skills at events.
These are just two programs Children’s Services offer that many people are unaware of unless you are directly affected by either of these problems.
