Help Your Child Do Their Best

Are you aware that not all children test well? Every stage in our lives we are tested and our children will be too, so we have to prepare them not only for life but for school. Some children are great at retaining information and regurgitating when asked, but not everyone is like this some get the jitters as a results the test may not accurately measure the child’s knowledge and ability.

So here are a few ways to help your child:

Reduce the anxiety from worrying

There is a skill to taking test, first thing is to prepare yourself for it, make sure you study.

Make sure your child knows that not only test score makes the grade. Good grade also includes attendance, attitude and completing homework assignment. So it may be important to do the test but without the other components a good grade or good student is not achievable.

Ensure as a parent you comfort the child by  letting them  be aware that one low test score does not mean a disaster. Once he or she understands the concept of the subject, they may just need to relax more or do their work a little faster due to the time constrains in  a test test situation.

Make sure your child knows you love them no matter the result. Do not use your affection as a reward or a consequence of  their test results. Once they do their best no matter the grade your love will never fail.

Test Tips

Always listen and follow instruction

Help your child in following direction. Make it a game (simon sez)

Time your children when doing a task. See how quickly they can follow direction without mistakes or blunders.

Make sure your child is physically ready. Ensure a good night sleep and a proper breakfast and wear the appropriate clothing. So no matter the weather they are prepared, being too hot or too cold can be a distraction.

Do not cram, try to study over a two week period, not the night before.

Skim the test quickly. Give all the test one look over so you can work out how much time you give to a particular question.  If there are essay question try to work on those first and allocate only 10 minutes to each and 1 minute to each multiple choice, this will give you time to look over all the answer and thus reducing any form of stress. Everything is organised and well planned out.

These are just guides they are not solutions and it takes time and patience from the parents or the care giver for the child to achieve this attainable goal.
